car owner wins case against council for damage through potholes

The owner of a vehicle, which got damaged on a road because of potholes successfully won his claim for damages to his car against Coventry council. This has important implications for all residents in all areas of the UK. See story here.

The former BBC sports commentator Hamilton Bland sued Coventry council because three of his car’s wheels were damaged by potholes during the severe weather conditions and the council was found liable because it appears the ruling implies that councils have to maintain their roads at all times to a good standard.
