Whilst Neighbourhood Watch is not so prominent in Tower Hamlets, because the council decided to drop it now almost a decade ago, we can see from other regions of the UK how local security is very importantly kept by Neighbourhood Watch schemes. In the East Midlands, which has a East Midlands Neighbourhood Watch Forum, the system is very well advanced and developed within communities.
Here in Tower Hamlets we have only just started to re-introduce neighbourhood watches in the borough. On Tuesday, I shall attend a London wide Neighbourhood Watch conference to mark National Neighbourhood Watch week. Wandsworth council very much support Neighbourhood Watch as a method to reduce crime and keep communities together. I have only just been appointed chair of the Tower Hamlets Neighbourhood Watch Association and hope to get some good tips from the chair of the London Neighbourhood Watch Association.
I actually also will book into one of Lutfur Rahman’s next surgeries to ask his support, lets see what his reaction will be.
